Abstract
253,891. Wood, W. R. June 16, 1925, [Convention date]. Pulverulent - fuel furnaces; cooling.-In a steam generator furnace burning pulverulent fuel, the combustion chamber 8 is provided with a box-like extension A lined with water tubes and fitted, on the upper side, with burners 23, Fig. 1, of the kind adapted to produce a short flame. The vertical lining-tubes 10, 11, 12 deliver into upper and lower headers 13, 14 and 15, 16, the latter being formed in two parts and respectively communicating with the tubes 17 lining the roof 24 of the extension A and the tubes 25 forming the usual ash-cooling screen C. The other ends of the tubes 17, 25 connect to two-part headers 18, 27, fitted with up-comer pipes 22, 28, circulation through the whole system of cooling tubes being effected by connection of the headers 13, 18 and the provision of down-comers 20 delivering into the two parts of the header 16. The tubes 10, 11, 12 may be formed with lateral fins adapted to overlap and so form a closed metallic lining.
