Abstract

348,933. Water-tube boilers. FOUNTAIN, H. J., 6, Brim Hill, East Finchley, London. June 24, 1930, No. 19193. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii).] Steam generators or water heaters comprise an inverted cup-shaped depression with its vertical sides fitted with thimble tubes G protected by a thin tube F of chromium steel or like heat-resisting metal from direct radiation from a glowing flame E directed into the depression by a burner D. The tube itself is raised to a glowing temperature and radiates heat to the thimble tubes. Combustion products after passing over the tubes exhaust through a channel below the boiler shell, or through fire-tubes arranged below the thimble tubes. Alternatively fire-tubes may be disposed above the thimble tubes, part of the gases passing amongst the thimble tubes from below a shortened tube F. Specifications 330,141 and 325,733, [both in Class 123 (ii), Steam generators], are referred to.
