Abstract

406,459. Rotary kilns. STEIN & CO., Ltd., J. G., HYSLOP, J. F., and BIGGS, H. C., Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire. Jan. 18, 1933, No. 1632. [Class 51 (ii).] The shell of an inclined rotary kiln is formed of hollow arcuate blocks 1 which are assembled to form an annular series of charge-conveying passages 2 surrounding the central combustion chamber 4. The kiln shown is extended at the upper end by a feed section having a central charge space 9 surrounded by a flue annulus, connecting passages 7 and 8 to the chamber 4 and passages 2 of the heating-section being formed in the transverse partition 6. The passages 2 are in communication with one another adjacent the partition 6 through side openings 3 in the blocks. In a modification all the blocks have side and end openings so that the charge can move both longitudinally and peripherally, and in a further modification the blocks are formed to provide helical zig-zag passages for the charge.
