Abstract

395,859. Checker-work for regenerators. DORMAN, LONG, & CO., Ltd., 7, Zetland Road, Middlesbrough, and OWSTON, H. W., 171, Coniscliffe Road, Darlington. June 13, 1932, No. 16694. [Class 51 (i).] Checker-bricks for use in the construction of regenerators or the like are of substantially rectangular form and are provided on appropriate faces with vanes, teeth or other projections adapted to project into the passages or tubes formed by the brickwork. As shown in Fig. 3, each brick is provided on each of two opposite faces a with two vanes or teeth b, one on each side of the transverse centre of the brick. In modified forms four vanes are provided on each of two opposite faces. The bricks are built up as shown in Fig. 4, the ends d of each brick abutting centre bosses c on the sides of bricks at right-angles thereto, thus forming tubes or passages f. The cross-section of the passages may be gradually increased by using, at higher levels, bricks with shorter vanes, some bricks g with no vanes, Fig. 7, and for the highest levels, all bricks with no vanes. The vanes of each passage may be - vertically staggered. Communication between adjacent. passages may be provided as by means of transverse openings h formed in the bricks.
