Abstract
629,930. Furnace recuperators. LAMBOT & CO., Ltd., M., and LAMBOT, V. M. Dec. 16, 1947, No. 33083. [Class 64(i)] In a recuperator as described in Specification 572,034 which is built up of tubular, refractory members forming heating gas ducts which are surrounded or partly surrounded by passages through which the medium to be heated is passed, the construction comprises a series of superimposed horizontal courses of tubular blocks placed end to end in rows, each tubular block 1 having two spaced external flanges 2, 3, one located at, and the other located adjacent to, one end of the block to form a groove or recess 4 between them and a single external flange 5 located at the other end of the block adjacent end flanges 2, 5 of the blocks in one row engaging within the grooves or recesses 4 in the blocks of a laterally adjacent row. In the form shown, the body portion of the block is rectangular in. crosssection and the flanges 2, 3, 5 extend on two opposite sides of the section and are flush with the body portion at the top and bottom of the block. The horizontal courses forming the recuperator are spaced apart by plain blocks 9, the spaces 10 between which form with the spaces 8 between the tubular blocks, continuous labyrinth passages for the gaseous fluid to be heated which passages extend from top to bottom of the recuperator. On alternately opposite sides of successive courses are rows of tubular side blocks 18, and side tile blocks 13, which have flat outer faces and which have upon their inner faces, spaced flanges 19, 20, 21 and 14, 15, 16 respectively which interlock with the flanges 2, 3, 5 on the adjacent row of tubular blocks 1. Shortened main tubular blocks 11, tubular side blocks 18a, and side tile blocks 13a are fitted at the alternately opposite ends of successive rows to provide flat end faces to the recuperator.
