Abstract

1,272,692. Thermal regenerators. CARBORUNDUM CO. 5 Oct., 1970 [15 Oct., 1969], No. 47167/70. Heading F4K. A heat transfer refractory brick 11 intended for use in a thermal regenerator and adapted for interlocking with similar bricks of a regenerative mass, is of rectangular outline with grooves 25 in its two opposite side-faces. The grooves are separated by lands 23 in which are sockets 33 aligned in adjacent superimposed bricks so that keys 35 of ceramic or of metal, may be fitted to prevent lateral movement of the individual bricks.' The respective grooves 25 in the two opposite side-faces of each brick are offset as shown and aligned in the abutting faces of adjacent bricks so that when the bricks are stacked, the grooves together form fluid passages through the mass. The bricks are sized and stacked so that the joints between adjacent bricks in any two superimposed courses are not in alignment. In the preferred form of regenerator (Fig. 1) the bricks are stacked in a housing (3) having a heat-insulating refractory lining, a gas inlet (5) and a gas outlet.
