Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain high heat-exchanging efficiencies in the regenerative furnace suitable for side parts of a glass oven by a method wherein in the regenerative furnaces are provided a plurality of regenerators vertically and horizontally divided and waste gas is allowed to flow horizontally in each regenerator.
CONSTITUTION: The regenerative furnaces 1, 1 with side ports arranged on both sides of a glass melting oven 2 are provided with a plurality of regenerators 3W6 which are divided both vertically and horizontally so that the waste gas in a combustion chamber 10 can flow in both A and B directions by a vertical partition wall 13. In other words, the waste gas flows on the whole in a horizontal direction in respective vertical regenerators 3, 5 and 4, 6. Space portions 16, 16' as gas passages are formed along bricks piled in a honeycomb form and regenerative furnace walls 15, 15' and the clearance width of the first space portions 16, 16' that the waste gas enters is preset so that the exit velocity of gas on this portion can have 1W5Nm/sec.
