Abstract

512,379. Underfeed stokers. AMERICAN ENGINEERING CO. Nov. 4, 1938, No. 32026. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1937. [Class 51 (i)] In a furnace having alternately disposed retorts 15 and tuyere rows 16 with deadplates 21, as shown in Fig. 1, one or more fluid conducting tubes 28 are arranged in cooling relation with the tuyeres, one or more fluid conducting tubes 33 are arranged in cooling relation with the deadplates and the lower ends of the tubes are connected to a common header 32. The deadplate cooling tubes are also connected to a header 34 from which tubes 38 extend upwardly inside the furnace to the boiler drum 11 to induce natural circulation. The tuyere cooling tubes extend upwardly along the furnace wall to an external header 30 connected to the boiler drum 11. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the tuyere and deadplate cooling tubes 73, 77 are extended upwardly along the inside of the furnace wall. In further modifications (not shown) the deadplate cooling tubes extend from the upper header of the deadplate cooling tubes upwardly along the side walls of the furnace.
