386,277. Furnace walls. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farring- don Street, London.-(Assignees of Lucke, C. E. ; 485, West End Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 24, 1932, No. 23737. Convention date, Jan. 20. [Class 51 (i).] In furnaces burning pulverized fuel and having the walls lined with water tubes spaced apart, the tubes 12, Fig. 2, have welded to them rows of long studs 16 and short studs 18 projecting into the spaces between adjacent tubes. The studs may be surrounded by refractory material on which slag formed by the combustion of powdered fuel may accumulate. The outer row of studs may be welded radially to the tubes and have their outer ends bent in alignment with the wall 22. As shown in Fig. 8, blocks 26 may be bolted to the tubes and such blocks may be provided with studs 46 projecting between the studs 48 on the tubes and serving to support refractory material 64. Short studs 88 may be provided on the tubes facing the furnace, as shown in Fig. 9, and such studs may be arranged in the hottest zone of the furnace and be coated with refractory material 90, the surfaces of the tubes in the cooler zones and exposed to direct heat of the furnace being without studs.
