Abstract

409,739. Rotary pumps. SCHREIBER, F. E. E. G., 24, Lowndes Square, Belgrave Square, London. Oct. 28, 1932, No. 30336. [Class 110 (ii).] The compressor comprises outer and inner rotors D, Z, coupled together as by external gearing v<1>-v<4>, in which blades B extend axially from a disc A and co-operate with recesses z to form pumping chambers. Pressure behind an abutment block K and in recess w is equalized through the inter-connection of ports m, n. A throttle device T may be provided in this byepass. The casing D is recessed at the top to permit close co-operation with the seal Z over the arc x, y. A second driving means for the seal comprises rollers on pins which are supported at each end in the disc A and in blades B. These rollers engage with grooves in the recesses z and in a groove on the outside of abutment K. The rollers may be mounted on flexible supports. In a modification, the disc A acts as a partition between two pumping chambers displaced axially. Gearing may be incorporated between the impeller shaft and a power shaft. A number of compressors may be arranged axially in alignment. A further arrangement is shown in Figs. 11, 12 in which the block K has an extension P. The driving disc A has an extension A<1> and a ring T<2>. An arm Q on the shaft X engages a slotted ring V<1>, and two arms R<1>, R<2>, fixed to the disc A, also engage slots in the ring V<1>. This form of drive may be replaced by gearing. A locking ring W may be used to connect and support the overhung blade ends, and the clearance T<1> may be dispensed with and replaced by a bearing surface for the ring W. A number of holes are spaced around the ring W to cooperate with port m for pressure-equalization purposes.
