408,858. Exhaust-silencers. SWENSEN, T., WETLESEN, H., GEELMUYDEN, K., and UNDALL, A. R., (trading as AERO MOTOR SILENCER), 21, N. Slottsgate, Oslo, Norway. Aug. 16, 1933, No. 22883. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1932. [Class 7 (ii).] A silencer of the kind comprising one or more tubes one within the other forming a to-and-fro passage for the gases is provided with narrow funnels or pockets open only at the end first encountered by the gases. The form shown comprises three concentric tubes 1, 2, 3 communicating with each other by holes 9, 10, 11 and fitted with series of funnel-shaped pockets 12 which are open to the flow of gases but closed at the opposite end. The exhaust gases enter at 7 and are divided by conical members 4, 5 provided on the tube 1 and between the tubes 1 and 2. The tubes are closed at the ends by plates 6, 8, the inner tube 1 projecting through the plate 8, with an open end for the exit of the gases. The conical portions 13 of the funnels 12 may be formed with cylindrical extensions from their larger ends.
