Abstract

379,458. Exhaust silencers. THORKILDSEN, J., Sandnes, near Stavanger, Norway. July 7, 1931, No. 19600. [Class 7 (ii).] A casing 1 contains a number of conical baffles 2, the bases of which face the inlet end 8 and are of a diameter such as to leave an annular space between their peripheries and the casing. Another set of truncated conical baffles 5 are secured by flanges 3, 7 to the casing and project into the baffles 2. The flow of the gases is indicated by the arrows. In a modification, one only of each kind of baffle is employed, the inner baffle being attached at its base directly to the casing without the use of flanges. In a still further modification, the number of baffles of the first modification is doubled. The truncated cones may be adjustable so as to vary the area of the passages 6 between the two sets of cones.
