Abstract
408,328. Thermionic valves. ROBINSON, E. Y., Garvary, Dryden Road, Bush Hill Park, Enfield, Middlesex, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. July 4, 1932, Nos. 2402/34 and 2403/34. Divided on 408,256. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i).] For use in the gain-control method and circuits described in Specification 408,256, a thermionic valve has at least four grids consecutively interposed between the cathode and the anode, the second and fourth or the third and fifth grids and no others being connected together within or as part of the manufactured valve, for example, within the valve envelope or cap. The cathode may be connected within the valve to a grid adjacent the anode. In a valve with the third and fifth grids connected together and acting as a self-oscillating, mixing valve in a supersonic heterodyne receiver, the second grid may be replaced by an auxiliary anode which may be formed by the usual grid-supporting rods. In a modified similarly acting valve, the auxiliary anode co-operates only with extensions of the cathode and first grid, the cathode being coated in two parts. The low-potential grid adjacent the cathode and used as input grid, or the gain-control grid, may be non-uniform. Stray field between the input grid and the anode may be reduced by passing their leads through remote parts of the bulb and by extensions of the shielding or other intervening grid. The details described are identical with those in Specification 408,256. Specifications 134,542, [Class 39 (i)], 380,429, 385,968, 407,317, and 408,330 also are referred to.
