Abstract
408,330. Thermionic valves. ROBINSON, E. Y., Garvary, Dryden Road, Bush Hill Park, Enfield, Middlesex, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. July 4, 1932, Nos. 9747/34 and 9748/34. Divided on 408,256. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i).] For use in the gain-control method and circuits described in Specification 408,256, a thermionic valve having a cathode surrounded by four or five successive grids and an anode is provided with means additional to the intervening grids for reducing the stray field between the input grid and the anode. The input grid is the first or third from the cathode in a fourgrid valve and the first or fourth in a five-grid valve. In each case, a further grid connected to the cathode may be inserted between the outer grid and the anode. To reduce the stray field, the lead-wires to the input grid and anode may lead out through remote parts of the bulb and screens or extensions may be provided on the screening or other intervening grid. The input grid next to the cathode and the gaincontrol grid are operated independently and may be non-uniform. When the valve is used as a frequency changer in supersonic heterodyne reception, reduction of stray field reduce the tendency to locking of circuits and radiation of the heterodyne signal.
