[Class 39 (i)] A gas- or vapour-filled rectifier comprises a coaxial anode and cathode, and the anode is so shaped or arranged that parts of it are at differing distances from the cathode whereby blocking of the discharge due to electron spacecharge is eliminated during operation and the characteristic has no portions with a falling tendency. In one form, an indirectly-heated cathode is surrounded by a grid and a plate or mesh anode to which the grid is connected, preferably inside the valve. The grid may have wing supports which are sandwiched between wings of the anode. The grid may be replaced by four ribs on the inner surface of the anode mounted either longitudinally or transversely. In another modification, the anode is star-shaped.
