408,641. Thermionic valves. M-0 VALVE CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London, GOSSLING, B. S., and MEGAW, E. C. S., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Oct. 11, 1932, No. 28309. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i).] A split-anode magnetron is provided with a grid between the cathode and the anode, and the grid is maintained at a potential relative to the cathode which varies, if at all, with a frequency not greater than that of any frequency with which the oscillations generated in the magnetron may be modulated for the purpose of transmitting signals. The grid, which may be connected to the cathode, may consist of one or more pairs of wires parallel to the cathode and mounted n one of its supports, or a spiral or mesh-cylinder grid may be used. The grid may be divided into several parts, each with a separate lead. Curves showing the effect of the grid upon the operation of a magnetron are given. Specification 391,739 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 351,419.
