Abstract

418,990. Thermionic valves. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. May 2, 1933, No. 12826. Convention date, May 2, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] In a valve having a cathode structure R K according to Specification 418,132 consisting of an electron-emitting element and two grids for regulating the electron density and velocity, a system of rods or plates GA, GB is so arranged between the cathode structure and the anode A that a field can be applied at right angles to the path between the cathode structure and the anode so as to deflect the electrons. Control of the electrons is thus effected at the region where their speed is low. Alternate rods &c. may be connected together, the connections to the two sets being taken through the envelope separately. A negative bias is applied to one rod &c. or set of rods &c. G B, so that electrons cannot be collected by that rod &c. Input voltages are applied to the rods &c. G B and electrons are deflected to the rods G A. The electron density and velocity from the cathode structure should be such that the dependence of the anode current on the voltage on the rods G B is a maximum.
