Abstract
400,928. Firebridges. JONES, N., 19, Moorside Avenue, and BROUGHTON, J. R., 40, Bromwich Street, both in Bolton. April 27, 1932, No. 12048. [Class 51 (i).] A furnace firebridge is built up of refractory blocks 9 providing vertical and inclined passages a of double tapering shape for the passage of air and arranged to form a central curved upper surface at the top of the bridge. The blocks 9 are supported on transverse bars 6, 6a and are grooved and recessed to form the passages a when assembled. Steam is delivered to the lower ends of the passages a by nozzles 10 to induce a supply of air from the ashpit under the control of a damper 20. Instead of being curved the central upper surface of the bridge may be stepped. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the bases 9a of the blocks 9 are curved to fit corresponding surfaces on cross-bars and are held in place by packing members 2c, 2d instead of being notched to engage the bars 6, 6a, as shown in Fig. 3.
