Fire - bridges; baffles.-Boiler furnaces are provided with air-supplying bridges comprising separately-replaceable vertical T-bars arranged as shown and formed with spacing-projections N. As shown in Fig. 1, the bars, which constitute the front of an air-preheating chamber communicating with the ash-pit, are supplied by a ribbed frame H and secured in place by a ribbed plate J formed with a hood K. In the locomotive furnace shown in Fig. 3, the bridge is surmounted by a baffle R having inverted conical holes S; in this form, the frame U may be dispensed with and the T-bars may be built into the baffle. The air supply may be regulated by working the fire towards or away from the bridge.
