Abstract

318,748. Knowles, H. S., and Burkinshaw, W. Sept. 12, 1928. Air, supplying; air supply, heating.-A. furnace, more particularly adapted for beating billets, is divided into compartments 13, 14, 15 by ported walls 18, adjacent which are bridges 19 extending upwards to a point above the level of the ports 20, the bridges and walls forming spaces 21 to which air for secondary combustion is supplied, preferably by superheated steam or air jets 26 delivering into conduits 22 passing through a side wall and the floor of the furnace. Air for primary combustion is similarly supplied to the fireplace 6 through a flue 11, and for secondary combustion through passages 17. When the waste gases are to be used for generating steam a bridge and air supply may be provided in connection with the end wall ports 27.
