Abstract

Firebars and grates.-The bars 15<A>, Figs. 2 and 3, of a furnace grate are provided with tapered holes 15 in which are suspended heat. conducting rods 16 provided with ribs 20 which form vents 14 with the bars 15<A> and serve to convey air from the ash-pit which has been heated bv the rods into the fuel bed. The heads 18 of the. rods are tapened, as shown. In the modification shown in Fig. 9, the holes in the fire-bars 15<B> are provided with grooves 24 which form vents with the head 18<A> of the rod 16, the ribs of which terminate short of the top of the head. The heads 18, 18<A> terminate below the upper surface of the grate bars.
