Abstract

Fire-bars and grates; air supply, regulating; fire-bridges.-In grates having a series of transverse bars with openings constituting longitudinal passages for the supply of air or steam, a damper is provided to move vertically in a recess in one of the fire-bars in order to reduce the effective area of the grate. The damper d moves in the vertical recess b<3> in one of the bars b and is regulable from the front of the furnace by means of a lever e and a rod f. At the rear of the grate is a hollow chamber g extending across the grate, and having an inclined top g' which is provided with openings g<2>, preferably formed between bars h. The air or steam passages of the grate communicate with the chamber g by means of pipes i. Ash collected in the air passages is blown out through an opening l, closed by a plate m which is operated by a rod n.
