Abstract
426,676. Boiler furnaces. ROSEVERE, G. R., 93, Kingston Road, Wimbledon, London. Jan. 20, 1934, No. 2074. [Class 51 (i)] A boiler furnace comprises grate bars 6 formed with air jets 13 extending upwardly and rearwardly, an upstanding bridge 7 at the inner end of the grate and in a flue outlet or in the furnace tube 5 behind the bridge, a baffle 16 having its edge for the greater part of its periphery spaced from the wall of the flue or furnace tube. The grate has a convex upper surface and is formed by grate bars 6 spaced apart by projecting lugs 15 and each having tapering air passages extending upwardly and rearwardly from the side web of the bar to a central recess 14 in the top of the bar. The bridge is in the form of a symmetrical and reversible hollow member preferably comprising a number of sections with openings such as 8 and 9, the air supply to which is controlled by a damper 10. A baffle 16 is spaced from the bridge to form a secondary combustion chamber and is provided with circumferential passages 17 through which the combustion gases pass. The lower part 18 of the passage is enlarged to prevent choking by the accumulation of dust. One or more central openings may be provided. The rear of the ashpit is closed by a removable ash collecting tray 19 in the bottom of the secondary combustion chamber.
