[Class 51 (i)] A boiler furnace comprises a combustion chamber 10 of variable capacity fed from a fuel shaft 2 and provided with a vertical grate 17 adjustable towards and away from a rear vertical grate comprising oval water tubes 21 behind which is a secondary combustion chamber 22 supplied with air from a pipe 23. The fuel is directed into the combustion chamber by inclined plates 30 and ashes are removed from the base plate 7 into the ash box 8 by a rod 26 which is reciprocated by a link system 29 from outside the boiler. The gases from the combustion chamber 22 pass to the lower ends of flues 9 passing through the water space of the boiler 11. The bars of the front and rear grates are inclined downwardly towards the combustion chamber 10. The inclination of the bars of the front grate may be adjusted. A heat accumulator 24 is arranged at the back of the secondary combustion chamber.
