Abstract
353,465. Heating feedwater ; heating air for combustion. ADAMSON & CO., Ltd., D., PARKYN, P. A. W., and KERFOOT, G., Engineering Works, Dukinfield, Cheshire. March 21, 1930, No. 9027. [Class 64 (i).] In a Cornish or like internally-fired shell boiler which has no side brickwork walls forming external flues, the gases after passing from the downtake 16, Fig. 10, to the front of the boiler through a bottom flue, as described for example in Specification 269,997, [Class 123 (ii), Steam generators], return to the back of the boiler through metal side trunks 36 containing air heaters 33 and water heaters 18. Air is drawn by a fan through the hollow walls 38, Fig. 13, of the downtake, and then through a duct 34 to the heater 33, from which it is delivered into the furnace. The water heaters 18 are connected to tubes 18<1>,Fig. 7, arranged at the back of the downtake and connected either with the steam and water spaces of the boiler or with the water space only. The tubes 18<1> may be surrounded by removable metal blocks 27, Fig. 9, clamped to the tubes and faced with refractory material 30.
