Abstract

Combined open fireplaces and cooking-stoves; grates; flue-dust, collecting and removing; boilers, arrangement of.-A combination range is provided with a brick bed 1 supporting the boiler 2 and having a chamfered top front edge 1<a> beneath which is a projecting ledge 3 supporting the rear edge of an inclined bottom grate 5; the front 6 of the grate is hollow, air passing into it through the open bottom and from it to the fire through holes 6<b> in the inner face. The chamber 1<a> prevents the accumulation of ashes in the boiler flue. and in the construction shown the rear edge of the grate 5 is formed with projecting lugs which rest on the ledge 3 and between which is a space through which the ashes may fall; the grate can be reciprocated by an arm 5b projecting through slots in the front. The front 6 is divided internally by partitions 6<a> into a series of passages and rests on a hollow support 10 having a hit-andmiss valve 11; alternatively the front may extend down to the hearth. The fire gases pass, under control of a damper, through a side opening 9@ in the grate to the flues surrounding a side oven 13. A withdrawable ash-collecting tray 14 is arranged in the bottom oven flue, and carries one part 16 of a flue baffle 16, 17.
