Cooking-stoves; boilers; combined or convertible coal and gas stoves.-Kitchen ranges fitted with sectional boilers are provided with several grates which may be used independently or in combination. The grates and sides of the fire-places &c. are formed by sections of the boiler. According to the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the range is provided with a large grate h entirely enclosed by the boiler, and with a small grate i arranged considerably higher and close to the range-plate p. The gases from the grate may pass through flues l, m between the sections and thence through the grate i to the ovens r ; or, by opening dampers o, they may pass directly to the space beneath the plate p. A plate or damper w controls the openings in a water grating q forming the bottom of the ash-pit for the grate i. Fig. 4 shows a double range with small grates i on each side of the boiler. Gas burners y are also fitted below the grates on the left-hand side. The gases from these may pass directly to the ovens r or through the grate i as indicated by the dotted arrows. In Fig. 6, the grates h, i are shown arranged one above the other and separated by a plate w<1>, which controls the openings in a water grating s. This grating may, however, be omitted. The various fire-places may use gas or coal.
