Cooking-ranges and fireplaces, convertible close and open; ovens; flues; air supply, controlling; air-heating arrangements.-Relates to hob grates which are convertible for open and close fires. The stove is shown for close-firing in Fig. 2 and for open-firing in Fig. 6, in which the flaps c<1>, c<2>, c<3> are shown opened and the plate B slid in. A modification consists in fitting an oven F above the full width of the coving of a stove of the type shown. The oven is warmed by heat passing through side flues from either or both of the hobs G, as shown by the arrows f<1>. When heat is drawn from both hobs, a partition f<4> is fitted in the flue space under the oven so that the air from the two sides traverses the bottom of the oven in opposite directions, as shown by the arrows in Fig. 4. The partition is divided centrally, and is pivoted at f<5> to allow the flues to be cleaned through the soot door h<1> or openings in the oven. The plates forming the walls of the central flue E are formed into baffles e<2>in the flue above the oven so as to prevent direct passage of heat into the chimney. The up-draught is regulated by a damper e<1>, and the stove may be fitted with means for regulating the combustion, consisting of an airexcluder a<3> which, when drawn out, as shown in Fig. 6, allows air to pass to the grate D through the trivet plate a'. Means are provided for passing air through the oven for warming the room, and the upper part of the stove may be concealed by hanging upholstery &c. when not in use. A circulating or other boiler d<1> may be fitted in combination with any of the above modifications. The air-excluder and trivet are also sbown in connection with a hob stove having no oven over the grate.
