Abstract

Cooking-stoves.-One or more cooking-pots are set in a lagged casing so that the flow of combustion products both to and from the spaces round them may be cut off in order to utilize the imprisoned hot gases for completing the cooking begun by the fire. Fig. 1 shows a diagonal section of a rectangular stove with three cooking-pots 2 set between a hot-plate 1 and a partition 8 and grouped round a firegrate 4. Over the fire is an horizontally sliding damper 5 which, to prevent it from becoming overheated, is made hollow, and in its extreme positions, communicates at its ends with the outer air, as shown. This damper 5 may be drawn forwards into or near the position shown so as to open, wholly or partly, the connexion between the fire-place 4 and the flues beneath the partition 8. Dampers 9 at the corners of the stove may be set so as to conduct the gases to each of the pots 2 independently. When the damper 5 is pushed back and the damper 7 in the chimney 6 is dropped, the gases are confined in the flues round the pots 2, for completion of the cooking, the temperature being maintained by the heat transmitted through the damper 5, which is in contact with the fire gases. The combustion products from the fire 4 rise in a compartment formed by three vertical plates 3, and pass thence to a chimney 6. A second fire-grate 12 may be fitted to heat the hot-plate 1, and may be arranged so as to accommodate a boiler or oven 10 beneath it and above the grate 4.
