Abstract
18,662. Cuggia, J. Aug. 16. Cooking-ranges; grates; dampers.-A k i t c h e n range is provided with two separate waterheaters, one of which supplies water for the heating - system of the building and the other water for domestic use, and also with two fireplaces, and dampers by which the uses of the range may be varied. The water - heaters are tubular, the heater 2 for the system being situated in the principal fire-place 1, and the other comprising tubes 12 in the additional fire-place 14 and tubes 12<1> in the oven flue 10. The capacity of the fire-place 1 may be varied by means of a bottom grate 3 which is adjustable vertically by worm gear, and has plates 4 which limit the air supply when it is raised. The grate 13 of the additional fire place is removable so that the fire-place 1 may be used alone when desired. Flues are provided all round the oven, and a rear flue 20, Fig. 5, communicating with the top and bottom oven flues and controlled by a damper 18 opens to the chimney. Pivoted dampers 7. 9, and a damper 8 comprising a pivoted frame with a removable slide are provided as shown. When it is desired to heat both water supplies and the oven, without heating the hotplate, an asbestos-covered heat-insulating slide 6 is drawn from its recesses to meet the damper 7, which is turned vertically, the damper 9 is also turned vertically, and the slide is drawn from the damper 8. The combustion products then pass down the flue 10, heating the tubes 12<1>, and escape to the chimney from the bottom flue 11. If in addition it is desired to heat the hot-plate, the slide 6 is slid into its recess and the dampers are arranged as shown in Fig. 2, the tubes 12 being heated. The water beater for the heating-system may be put out of action by arranging the slide 6 and dampers as shown in Fig. 3, inserting the grate 13, and having a fire on this grate only. When the stove performs all its functions, the slide 6 and the dampers are placed as described in the first of the above arrangements, and fires are provided on both grates, the damper 18 being raised so that the combustion products from the grate 13 pass down the rear flue 20.
