WATER HEATER FOR STOVES.

Application led October 6, 1922. Serial No. 592,872.

Be it known that I, PER Enron DUBERG, a subject 'of the King of Sweden,and resident of Hallsberg, in the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water Heaters for Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein tothe accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to improvements in a water heater for stoves which is provided with a double or hollow top that constitutes a water chamber, which by means of a number ofv tubes communicates with lower water containers.

The invention consists in the feature, that these last mentioned water containers extend along the sides of the stove, so that the sides and back of the fire place of the stove are formed by water filled tubes, which together with the upper hollow top and the lower water containers constitute a water heater.

Referring to the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section and Fig. 3 is a transverse section.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 3,*the top is composed of an upper plate and a lower plate which are joined tightly together so as to form a shallow tank in which the usual openings 2 for the cooking utensils are made. On the bottom of the stove is arranged a water container 3 which is conveniently made square in cross sectionbox, which extends along one or more of the sides of the stove. In the example shown this water container 3 extends along the end walls and the back wall of thestove and thus encloses the fire place on the sides and the oven 4 on two sides. The lower water container 3 communicates with the upper tank lthrough a number of vertical or substantially vertical tubes 5. These tubes, which thus form a very large heating surface, are arranged at the side of and behind the fire place, so that they are directly enveloped by the flames from the fuel in the grate 6, but they can also be arranged along the greater part of the back wall of the stove and along the end wall next to the oven 4. These tubes are enveloped by the hot smoke gases and heated so that the oven acquires an even heat. 7 indicates inlet tube and 71 outlet tube for the water. The top 1, the containf ers 3 and the tubes thus form together a water heater which in relation to its volume has va very large and thus very effective heat absorbing surface.

8 indicates the usual smoke outletv to which the smoke gases are led after having passed around the oven. For use during the summer or when heating of the water boiler is not desired or for staring the lire when the draught is bad, these is arranged in the backof the stove Vabove the fire place another smoke outlet 9` through which the smoke gases can leave directly wit-hout passing behind the oven. This smoke outlet is provided with a damper 10 which is open when the stove is used under the above stated conditions and then the water boiler is practically unhea-ted. In other cases the damper 10 is shut. The damper 10 is provided with a rod 11, which extends through the hearth and at its upper end has a handle 12 for its turning. y

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A stove provided with a water heater comprising, a hollow tank forming the top of the stove and having openings therethrough for the reception of cooking utensils, a tubular tank at the bottom yof the stove and extending along the sides and back thereof, tubes located at the sides and back of the stove and connecting the upper and lower tanks, a smoke outlet near the lower tank, a smoke outlet near the upper tank, and means for opening and closing the last named outlet.
