y pecication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov., 5, 1918.
Application led December 20, 1917. Serial No. ZOtLOM.
This invention relates to coolr` stoves of` the class having a top'plateiuponwhich articles such as pancakes are fried; `The object of the invention is to construct a stove top so that the heat derived from the lirebox may be distributed `as uniformly as porsible throughout the cookingsurfaee of the top. l
A further object is to construct a stove; top so that the effective cooking heat maybe regulated to enable the same to be increased or diminished without disturbing the lire.
A still further object is to provide means whereby the draft of the stove may be regulated to control the combustion of the fuel.
'llhe invention consists in the novel construction, adaptation and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a stove embodying my invention, a portion of the top plate being broken away. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical. section of the same. Fig. 3 is a front elevational view.
lin said drawings, is shown a cook stove having a fire-box 5, and an ash-pit 6 respectively provided with front doors 7 and 8. rllhe top 'l' of the stove is constructed to have spaced upper and llower floor plate elements 9 and l() having therebetween longitudinal side walls 1l and partitions 152, each Side wall being connected at the front and back of the stove by end walls 13 `and 14 with the adjacent partition to afford a dead air space or chamber 15 at each side of a central longitudinal flue 16. rllhis flue is provided at its front end with a slide damper 17 and at its rear end with a hinged damper 18 which controls an opening into a duct 19 communicating with the smoke passage 20 from the tire-box 5 and also through an outlet 21 in the top plate 9 for a chimney pipe.
ln operation. the hot combustion gases and flames in the tire-box 5 and passage 19 serve to heat the floor plate 10, while the upper plate 9 is heated from the latter by the conductivity of the material in the partitions 12 and the convectivity of air within both the chambers 15 and the flue 16.
The heat from the fire is,however, applied principally to the central part of the y floor plate or tothat portion beneath the flue 16 with a tendency to cause the central part of the upper plate 9 to be unduly heated.
To correct such uneven 'heating of the upper plate, the dampers 17 and 18 are regulated for the admission or tiow of a suitable quantity of relatively cool air into or through the flue to modify or lower the temperature of the air within the flue and the partitions at each side of the same.
When the dampers are opened more or less for the passage of air into the duct 18, the tire is correspondingly checked.
The invention will, it is thought, be understood from the foregoing description.
1. lin a stove, the combination with a fire box. and a smoke outlet therefor at the back of the stove, of a stove top provided with a central longitudinal flue extending from the front of the stove to said outlet, and a deadair chamber at each side of said flue, and a damper for regulating the flow of cooling air through said due. y
2. lin a stove,` a top comprising spaced upper and lower plate elements, longitudinally disposed walls and partitions and transverse walls positioned between said plate elements to provide two closed chambers and a flue intermediate thereof, said flue being open at both ends for the passage of cooling air therethrough, and a damper for controlling the passage of air through the Hue.
