Cooking - ranges; closed solid-fuel stoves; smoke, consuming; cooking - chambers.-In a stove of the kind wherein the smoke and products of combustion are returned to the firechamber by a steam jet or the like, the firechamber has arranged adjacent to it a fuelchamber in which the fuel is partly or wholly distilled, the resulting gas passing into the firechamber. Figs. 1 and 3 show a kitchen range, and Fig. 4 a closed stove, the fuel-chambers A being respectively at the side of and above the combustion chamber B, from which they are separated by partitions A'. In Figs. 1 and 3 the combustion chamber is shown divided by a fire-bridge B' into two parts, which are connected by an horizontal flue E provided with a steam jet F, by means of which the smoke &c. is driven back from the space beyond the bridge into the space between the partitions A<1>, B<1>. The fully-consumed gases pass away by flues D passing round an oven H, and thence to a chimney G. One or more openings may be made in the upper part of the partition A<1> to allow the gas distilled in the chamber A to pass into the combustion chamber B. Air may be supplied through the chamber D<2> and passage D<3>. where a damper is fitted. In the closed stove shown in Fig. 4, the combustion products from the fire-chamber B pass up side flues into a circulation chamber B<3>, whence they are returned to the chamber B by means of a steam jet F and flues F', E. Openings D' conduct the consumed gases into a chamber D and flue G. Apertures A<2> allow the gas evolved in the chamber A to pass into the chamber B<3>.
