Ovens.-To prevent the discharge of steam and other gases into the bakehouse through the grate of the furnace, and to reduce the radiation of heat, an iron apron is suspended from studs or hooks f so as to cover the space b above and in front of the furnace door a and to extend nearly to the bottom of the ash-pit c, and the space b above the furnace door is connected by a cross-flue h with the main flue d' of the oven, a damper i being arranged as shown. Any gases emitted from the furnace rise behind the apron and pass away to the main flue through the cross-flue h.
