Closed stoves; smoke, consuming. - A closed solid-fuel stove has a fire-pot with hollow walls through which air is supplied, an inner hollowwalled secondary combustion chamber, into which the smoke &c. passes through perforations and where it is consumed by air admitted through the hollow walls, and an exit from the bottom of the secondary combustion chamber to the flue. Air is admitted to ash-pits G by hit-and-miss valves G', and passes to chambers A' in the fire-pot walls A, thence escaping to the fuel through vertical slits. Secondary air is admitted by a pipe F to the top of the space in the hollow walls of the secondary combustion chamber, and escapes by perforations in the inner wall, the smoke &c. passing to this chamber by slits D<4> having tops and bottoms preferably downwardly inclined. The combustion products escape at the bottom of the secondary combustion chamber to the base B around the ash-pits G, and thence pass to a flue H at the rear of the stove. The grate, not shown in the Figures, may allow little or no air to pass to the fire.
