[Class 126.] Ashes, removing; boilers, arrangement of; grates; convertible close and open fireplaces.- In a stove comprising an oven above the fireplace, and flues passing from the fireplace and around the oven to a smoke-box 85 provided with an aperture having a cover 89 which allows direct access for sweeping the main chimney without removal of the oven, a removable inner plate 90 is provided which prevents outfall of soot when the cover 89 is removed. Further, the space between the back boiler 29 and the oven bottom flue is divided by a removable partition 50 into two compartments lying side by side, one compartment 51 forming a housing for the boiler connections 41, 42, which are thus protected from soot, and the other compartment 52 forming the flue by which the gases pass from the fire to the oven bottom flue. The top of the compartment 51 is formed by a horizontal extension of the plate 50, and a removable plate 48 covers the front of both compartments. The boiler is of L-form in plan. The flow and return pipes pass through casings 45, 46 projecting from the stove body, and are thus not built into the brickwork. Alternative apertures for the passage of the pipes are provided in the back and the other side of the orate, the latter being closed by a cover 100. The stove is converted for use with a closed fire by turning down a hob plate 70 to the horizontal position, and by turning a plate 71 forwardly until it contacts with a lintel plate 74, a flue thus being formed between the plates 48. Both the plates 70, 71 may be removed by lifting out of their bearings on the sides of the stove, the lintel plate 74 being pivoted so that it may be turned to allow the top of the plate 71 to pass it. The grate bottom 14 is pivoted at the rear edge to allow it to be shaken or to allow it to be used with the front edge raised, in which position it is supported by gravity catches 21 which rest on the bar 18.
