Combined open fireplaces and cooking- s t o v e s ; dampers; boilers, arrangement of. -In back-to-back grates having a common chimney, a boiler arranged substantially between the grates, and an oven adjacent them, separate oven and boiler plates are provided, together with an outlet from each grate leading directly to a boiler flue which is common to both grates. In the stove shown in Fig. 2, the gases from the grates a, b may pass through side apertures controlled by dampers g and beneath a U-form boiler h, being subsequently directed up the boiler flue k or along the bottom, outer side, and top of the oven by dampers in the boiler and oven flues. The fireplaces are provided with pivoted canopies which actuate flue registers. The outlet flue from the stove is carried horizontally beneath a drying-cupboard to a wall-corner chimney o. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the boiler h is arranged between the backs of a barless grate a<3> and a combination type grate b<3>, there being a througn passage f<1> between the grates and beneath the boiler. Sliding dampers q interconnected by a chain q<1> allow either or both of the grates to be connected to the passage f<1>, from which the gases pass to boiler and side oven flues as in the previous construction. The hinged canopies a<1>, b<1> operate flue registers a<2>, b<2>. A baffle t above the firebacks checks the passage of draught between the two rooms.
