Abstract

Combined open fireplaces and cooking stoves; dampers; boilers, arrangement of. - A damper plate C is mounted in front of the boiler A so that its bottom edge may be moved to or from the boiler, in order to direct the gases from or towards it. The damper shown in Fig. 1 is pivotally attached at the top to links D, the other ends of which are pivoted to the grate, and is operated by a notched rod E passing through a hole in the fireplace front. The arrangement is preferably such that the top of the damper may be made to contact with the hot-plate. A second damper H may be provided to control the opening between the damper C and the hot-plate. In the combination range shown in Fig. 4, the damper C is provided at the bottom with side projections engaging a series of notches in a member F, by which the damper is retained in the desired position. The gases pass around the oven by way of bottom, outer side, and top flues, or direct to the top flue through a vertical flue extending up the front of the inner side.
