Abstract
440,168. Sectional boilers. TROTTER, G. W., Bellerby, Caledonian Road, West Hartlepool. June 6,1934, No. 16820. Addition to 417,127. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii)] In a boiler with an enclosed firebox 1 to which fuel is fed from above and in which burning fuel rests in contact with the whole of a forwardly-sloping water-heating surface through which combustion gases pass upwardly from the lower front edge of the grate 3 to at least one additional water-heating surface, the first surface has many passages of small width compared with their depth, each being first gradually constricted and then widening out so that high velocity gas streams impinge on the next closely adjacent surface. The surfaces comprise flattened oval or diamond tubes 11, 13, 15 connected to top and bottom tubular headers 10, 12, 14, and in the rear is a detachable imperforate vertically grooved water-heating surface 21. The boiler has water-jacketed vertical side walls in sections 4, 16, 17 interconnected for water circulation with one another and with the headers 10, 12, 14. Hinged cover plates 19, 20 are removable for cleaning the tubes internally and externally. The front wall 2 of the firebox is also water-jacketed.
