Grates; baffles; air supply, regulating. - Steam, air, or the like for consuming smoke is supplied from a chamber or series of chambers d arranged between the rear ends of the fire-bars c of a furnace and the bridge b, a baffle or damper g being arranged over the chamber, which may be moved by a rod h to vary the space between it and the bridge. Steam is supplied to the chamber by a pipe c having a series of jets. The chamber may be provided with a grid at the top and with a scraper k for removing ashes. Liquid or gaseous fuel may be delivered near the bridge by a pipe i.
