Liquid-fuel furnaces.-A steam-boiler furnace adapted for burning coal or oil is provided with a hollow furnace front having a lower compartment g supplying air to the ash-pit, where it is heated by passing around a baffle-plate k and along the underside of the grate which, for oilfiring, is covered with asbestos sheeting and brick tiles or the like, and a separate compartment h receiving the heated air from the ash-pit and delivering it to the burner. A tube or tubes may be used in place of the baffle-plate k.
