Abstract
395,543. Valves; cylinders. McLAREN, H. S., 84, Union Street, North Brighton, Victoria, Australia. Sept. 26, 1932, No. 26704. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] A rotary valve 12 is formed with an axial exhaust passage 45 surrounded by a water cooling-chamber 44 and an annular inlet chamber 24, and rests upon seatings formed on the upper ends of cylinder liners 7 pressed upwards by springs 15. The inlet chamber 24 is formed with ports 27 co-operating with cylinder ports 21, and communicates with an inlet passage 26 at the centre or at one end of the valve. The exhaust passage 45 is formed with a port 29 extending along the valve, and with ports 28 extending through the inlet chamber 24 and in alignment with the cylinder ports 21, and is connected to the exhaust pipe 53. The springs 15 are arranged on bolts 16 and bear against plates 18, which may support a pair of liners. Struts or ribs 30 are provided across the inlet chamber 24 for strengthening purposes. The cooling-chamber 44 is connected at one end with a header 49 communicating at 50 with the cylinder jackets, and at the other end with an outlet 62, and the valve is surrounded by a water jacket 43.
