Abstract
320,208. Seeley, F. G. Sept. 11, 1928. Cylinders receiving liquid f u e I. - The combustion chamber of a Diesel engine comprises a cylindrical portion 4 which has an axially arranged fuel valve 8 and a small cylindrical passage 20 to the cylinder. By providing a second passage 20, two pistons may be acted on, in parallel or oppooed cylinders, by the same impulse. A twostroke-cycle engine is shown, but in a four-stroke-cycle engine inlet and exhaust valves are provided at 9, 10, at which points starting air and pressure relief valves or a starting igniter may also be provided. The cylinders are mounted on flanges 5, which may be independent of the cylinder barrels; the cooling water circulates by passages 6, 7 through the head jackets, which are closed by plates 12 and stuffing box joints 13.
