Abstract
209,451. Cleminson, J. J. D. Sept. 6, 1922. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.- Steam is generated in an exhaust heated generator 38 from water which has flowed through the cylinder jacket and piston of the engine 1 in succession, and is expanded in the steam cylinder 26. A pump 29 compresses air for scavenging the engine 1 or for use in either engine or pump for starting. The steam engine is provided' with reversing gear 27 from which the air admission valves 11 and the oil pumps 9 of the oil engine are worked. The fuel admission valve 10 contains an incandescent igniter in its stem for use at starting. The steam generator may be heated at starting by burners 44. The oil engine has a corrugated water jacket to allow of expansion.
