Abstract

250,289. Brutzkus, M. Nov. 10, 1924. Drawings to Specification. Oil gas.-Water gas is formed by cracking oil or tar in the presence of steam at a temperature exceeding 1000‹ C., and the reaction is effected in an engine cylinder as described in Specifications 149,915 and 155,776, [both in Class 91, Oils &c.]. In the case of a Diesel or other engine working on a 4-stroke cycle, steam superheated to 400‹ C. enters the cylinder during the second stroke with a rise in temperature to about 1200‹ C. Oil is injected with compressed air during the third stroke, and partial combustion maintains the reaction temperature. The water gas &c. escapes through the exhaust valve to a holder during the fourth stroke. The piston may be driven from the exterior if the energy of the reaction is insufficient for this purpose; according to the Provisional Specification, the reaction may be energetic enough to obtain a .surplus of mechanical work.
