Compression engines; cylinders, pipes for.-A multi-cylinder engine particularly applicable for aviation comprises two rows A, B of cylinders at a small angle to one another which are joined together, or integral with one another, and are provided with a single central exhaust pipe J and inlet pipes G at the sides of the cylinders. The inlet and exhaust valves E are in the cylinder heads and are actuated from overhead cam-shafts F. One row of cylinders mav be centrally placed over the crank-shaft Z, and the other row may be offset, or both rows may be offset to different degrees. The cylinders are surrounded by a common water jacket, the volume of which is reduced by a tube D passing longitudinally through the casting.
