Engines with two or more parallel cylinders with axes perpendicular to main shaft.-In a compound marine engine, of the type having a single valve serving as high-pressure exhaust and lowpressure inlet, two high-pressure cylinders a arc arranged at the middle of the engine with the lowpressure cylinders b outside. The valves of each unit are operated by a cam shaft e which is oscillated by an eccentric h on the main shaft. The eccentrics can be reversed simultaneously by means of a hand-lever or by the governor.
