Abstract

138,904. Daniel, P. F. Feb. 10, 1919, [Convention date]. Valves; valve-gear.-A rotary cylindrical valve controlling the inlet or exhaust, or both inlet or exhaust, of a multicylinder engine is formed in sections 1, 1 with flexible connexions 2 which are hollow for the passage of cooling-water through the whole length of the valve, and means such as spring-pressed plungers 26 are provided in the valve casing for holding each section against the cylinder port face 14. The connexions 2 may comprise flexible metal tubing as shown, or ball- and-socket joints. The connexions 2 may be relieved of torsion by driving each valve section 1 independently from spur-wheels on a shaft parallel with the valve, or by providing sleeves 5 on adjacent ends of the sections, these sleeves having clutch teeth to transmit the drive, and water-tight packing at 10.
