Cylinders, cooling.-In a double-acting engine, the cooling fluid is admitted at the centre part of the cylinders, travels through zig-zag passages in the jackets, and leaves at the two ends. The Figure shows a development of the interior of a cylinder jacket, and the cooling fluid, admitted at f, p, flows respectively through passages g, k - - and o, q - - t, the passages k and q being formed in the bars of the inlet and exhaust ports. The currents may afterwards flow through head jackets before leaving by a common discharge pipe.
