Abstract

204,106. Still, W. J. June 19, 1922. Cylinders, construction of and cooling.-A cylinder is formed with a thin wall 1 adjacent the combustion space, supported by a reinforced thicker wall 2 cast integral therewith, the two walls being connected by webs 3 between which cooling-water passages 4 are formed. The thick wall 2 may be reinforced by shrinking on hoops 5, 5<a>, The cylinder thus constructed is totally immersed in the water-jacket. baffles 6 being provided to close the openings between the reinforcing hoops 5 and 5<a>. The cylinder may be constructed thus along its whole length, or only at those portions subjected to great heat and pressure. In the Provisional Specification is described a similar construction in which the thick outer wall is not reinforced. Specifications 1750/12 and 133,077 are referred to.
